Should Christians Vote for Hillary Clinton?

I have previously argued that Christians cannot in good conscience support Donald Trump. Now I would like to explain why Hillary Clinton is just as undeserving of our vote. I could never vote for Hillary Clinton for one simple reason: I don’t want the blood of unborn children on my hands. I could never lend my support or endorse any political candidate that supports the murder of unborn children. When we vote, we are handing a sword to those entrusted with governing (Rom 13:4). I could never give that sword to those who would use it to shed innocent blood. The purpose of the government is to punish those who do wrong, not those who are innocent (Prov 17:15). A government which sheds the blood of innocents is a government which has no right to exist.

Those in authority are called to speak for those who are unable to speak for themselves: “Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute. Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy” (Prov 31:8-9). Unborn children are unable to speak for themselves and that is why those in authority must speak for them. We are called to “rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter” (Prov 24:11). Proverbs 6:16-19 is a commentary on the life of Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump: “There are six things that the LORD hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.” And is there any blood more innocent than that of an unborn child?

While no one issue qualifies a candidate for political office, many issues can disqualify him or her. Abortion is the greatest evil of our nation and voting for a candidate who supports it would be lending my support for this evil practice. I cannot endorse any candidate who celebrates the shedding of innocent blood. Both Clintons are liars and advocates for the murder of unborn children. Her position is utterly defenseless. And I’m not convinced Donald Trump is better on this issue than Clinton. At one time, he even supported partial-birth abortion. I don’t believe his current Pro-Life stance is motivated by the dignity of unborn children, but rather, by political expediency. These are the candidates our nation deserves when we reject God and his law.
